The sunlight that shines through the window gets softer as the days go by; spring seems to have arrived in San Francisco.

Three years have past since the Northeast Japan Earthquake. The mission of our most recent charity concert and bake/craft sale, like our previous concerts and sales, was to support the children who were affected by the disaster. To date, we have held 4 concerts and 11 bake/craft sales. On behalf of “ABC Niji no Kai”, we are deeply grateful for your continued support.

At the most recent sale, we raised $5,500 (includes the donations we received).
Half of the proceeds will go towards the Ashinaga Scholarship fund to support the establishment of the Northeast Rainbow House. The other half of the proceeds will go towards funds for the Takata Childcare Facility in Rikuzentakata city, Iwate Prefecture.

During these 3 years, “ABC Niji no Kai” has raised $38,000 for the Northeast Japan children who were affected by the earthquake. The most recent charity concert marks the last of our Northeast Japan fundraising efforts. Construction of Rainbow House is almost complete, and the people of Sendai celebrated with a completion ceremony. Also, a facility opened this month in Ishinomaki, and I have heard that the Rainbow House that is under construction in Rikuzentakata is expected to open at the end of spring. In addition, the construction of a new kindergarten building at Takata Childcare Facility is moving along, and the move into the new building is scheduled for this fall. We can conclude that we are close to achieving our original mission. Knowing that those who are affected by the earthquake feel that having “people forget about the disaster is the most difficult” makes it hard for us to conclude our group efforts. I hope that we can continue to individually support the people of Northeast Japan.

The Northeast Japan Earthquake has provided a learning opportunity on the preciousness of life to the children of ABC Preschool and Pine Afterschool.

Since the Northeast Japan Earthquake, there have been disasters such as earthquakes, tornadoes, and shootings in the United States, and a typhoon in the Philippines. The number of victims affected from such disasters is unknown. Regardless of the magnitude of the disaster, or the number of deaths, humanity and the importance of one person’s life are significant and immeasurable. I hope that the children learn to think about the preciousness of life, and become individuals who cherish the future, their own lives, and the lives of others.

I will continue hoping that those who are affected in Northeast Japan experience days of healing as soon as possible, and hope for a bright future for the children.

関係者各位

　窓にさしこむ日差しが日ごとにやわらかくなり、サンフランシスコにも春の訪れを感じる季節となりました。
東北大震災より3年、今回も被災した子供たちを支援するためのチャリティーコンサート並びにベーク／クラフトセールをご支援いただきありがとうございました。コンサートはすでに今年で4回目、ベーク＆クラフトセールは11回目を迎えるに至りました。「ABC虹の会」を中心に皆様と共にここまで続けて来ることができましたことに心より感謝いたします。

　今回のセールでは皆様からのドネーションも含め、5,500ドルの支援金を集めることができました。半額を東北レインボーハウス設立のための資金として「あしなが育英会」へ、さらに半額は岩手県陸前高田市立高田保育所への支援金として使わせていただきます。

　「ABC虹の会」では3年間を通し、計38,000ドルの募金を集め、東北の被災児たちに送り続けてきました。
残念ではありますが私たちの東北支援活動は今回のチャリティーコンサートをもって終了いたします。
レインボーハウスは建設がほぼ完了し、仙台では竣工式を迎えられました。また石巻の施設も今月中に開設され、陸前高田市に建設中のレインボーハウスも春が終わるまでには開設の予定であると聞いております。
また、高田保育所は新しい園舎の建設がすすみ、この秋にも引っ越しが予定されており、私たちの当初の目的はゴール間近であると判断いたしました。
　被災した方々が「この震災を人々に忘れられることが一番つらい」と感じておられることを知りつつここで支援を終了することは大変心苦しいのですが、組織だった活動は終わっても、個人レベルではずっとずっと東北の皆さんを応援し続けたいと思っております。

　この東北の震災によりABCプリスクール、アフタースクールの子供たちは人の命の尊さについての学びのきっかけがあたえられました。震災後も続くアメリカ各地での地震や竜巻、銃乱射事件、フィリピンの台風等など、その犠牲になった人々は数知れません。その事件や災害の規模の大小、亡くなられた方の数の多少にかかわらず、人、一人の命の重さは皆、はかりしれなく重いものです。子供達がこの命の尊さに思いを馳せ、将来、自分の命も、そして人の命をも大切にしていける人間になってほしいと願っています。

　東北で被災されました皆様に一日も早く癒された毎日が訪れますよう、そして子供たちに明るい未来がやって来ますよう願ってやみません。

　３年間「ABC虹の会」を支えて下さいました皆様に心より感謝し挨拶にかえさせていただきます。
